The tragic death of Jerry Collins

June 05, 2015 1 min read

Earlier today, we heard the sad news the Jerry Collins, the former All Blacks captain, had died in a car crash in France, aged just 34. Collins' wife Alana Madill also lost her life, whilst their 3 month old daughter is in a critical condition in hospital. It is thought their car stopped on the A9 highway, where it was then hit by a bus. Tributes have been paid from all over the rugby world to the ex-Hurricanes flanker, who had recently been credited with saving his French side Narbonne from relegation, and was described as the "Jonah Lomu of forwards" by England's World Cup-winning scrum half Matt Dawson. Some of Collins' former teammates, opponents and referees also expressed their shock at the news, with Lee Byrne tweeting this image of the two men enjoying a beer together. Thinus Delport was on the receiving end of a massive Jerry Collins hit and was quick to pay tribute to his nemesis! Let's take a look at some of Jerry's best moments and huge hits from his rugby career. It wasn't all big tackles, he was also a legend to this amateur team. RIP Jerry Collins, you will be missed.
