The Edinburgh Knights are here!
Today the new Edinburgh Rugby kit for the 2015-16 season has been revealed. On the 31st of July, Edinburgh Rugby were kind enough to give us a sneak peak at what the new kit had in store come the 19th of August. The mainly black & white video did not reveal much with only snippets of the kit here and there, all we could deduce from 19 seconds in though was, is that... surely not... yup, there is camouflage in that shirt!
Macron Sports have been known to throw in the occasional design curveball, they have erred on the side of tradition many times but also like to show off their Italian flamboyance at others. So to 6pm today, the 18th of August 2015.
Here it is.............
As you can see the away/alternate shirt immediately catches the eye. Red, black and white camouflage is never going to be for the faint hearted or traditionalist. However it certainly strikes an exciting silhouette that will stand out from the crowd. Is it for me personally? Probably not! Will it sell well? Yes, I believe so and particularly to kids.
So on to the home top, again it is fairly out there. The clue was in the Game of Thrones background music to the teaser video above. Something to do with the realm, or perhaps Knights! Edinburgh Rugby seem to be going down a re-branding route of calling themselves the Black & Red Knights, and to this effect the shirt sports a chainmail effect throughout the black body sections of the new jersey. The city of Edinburgh has a history like no other, so why shouldn't this be a new asset (or re-visted we believe) to the identity of the only professional rugby side in the area. Personally I think they pull it off pretty well and again it should be a commercial hit for the club.
In the age of social media, we'll know later this evening whether this shirt gets the Edinburgh Rugby fans reaching for the like, share and retweet buttons or whether it'll have us ringing the bell of shame! Let us know what you think in the comments below.
The new kit will be available for sale from tomorrow morning, 19.8.15, 9.30am in our store at 6-8 Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh
