Scotland squad announcement for 2018 NatWest Six Nations

Tuesday 16th January 2018 saw Gregor Townsend announce his first Six Nations squad as Scotland head coach.

Following on from November wins against Samoa and Australia, as well as an agonising defeat to the All Blacks, Scotland go into the tournament on a high, but missing some big names.

With Zander Fagerson, WP Nel, Ross Ford, Allan Dell, Darryl Marfo and Al Dickinson are all injured, and Simon Berghan suspended for the opener against Wales, the front row has been an area of concern for Townsend, but Jon Welsh, Gordon Reid and Scott Lawson have all been recalled.

Elsewhere in the forwards, Worcester Warriors' Dave Denton is brought back in, having not represented Scotland since the 2016 tour in Japan.

Greig Laidlaw has been out injured since breaking his leg playing for Clermont, but Townsend has named him as one of 4 scrum-halves in the squad, with John Barclay retaining the captaincy.

Tim Visser has scored six tries from nine Premiership appearances for Harlequins this season, but Gregor Townsend has decided to include the likes of Chris Harris and Byron McGuigan instead, as he looks towards the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

The squad contains four potential debutants - Blair Kinghorn, Nathan Fowles and Murray McCallum of Edinburgh, as well as D’arcy Rae from Glasgow Warriors.

Remember, here at First XV, we have a full range of Scottish Rugby kit, from replica shirts and shorts, right through to hoodies, t-shirts, beanie hats and boxer shorts.
