Gilbert is the oldest rugby ball manufacturer and supplier in the world. They were founded in 1823 by William Gilbert. He owned a boot and shoemakers shop next to the famous Rugby School. After William Webb- Ellis famously picked up the ball and ran with it and essentially invented rugby Gilbert began to manufacture rugby balls from pigs-bladders and 4 panels of hand-stitched leather.
The modern-day Gilbert Rugby are still the world leaders in rugby ball manufacture. You'll find them supplying most top and second tier rugby nations as well as the biggest tournaments such as the Rugby World Cup in 2019. However, it's not only rugby balls. Gilbert lends their vast expertise in the sport to produce rugby boots, head guards, shoulder padding and accessories such as kicking tees, laces and line out lifting blocks. Recently they also took the role of official kit supplier to the world famous invitational team the Barbarians FC.
