    Scottish Rugby Shirt History

    Scotland traditionally has played in all navy blue shirt, white shorts and navy socks since their inception on Monday 27 March 1871.
    Scotland played an England XX at Raeburn Place in Edinburgh that day after a group of Scots players issued a challenge to the English players in the newspapers the Scotsman and Bell's life.

    The combination went largely unchanged until Cotton Oxford took over the SRU kit contract in the late 1990s. They introduced purple to the home strip and controversially a bright orange to the away strip which had previously always been white.

    Manufacturers Umbro, Pringle, Cotton Oxford, Canterbury and Macron have all had stints manufacturing the shirt. Macron, an Italian sportswear manufacturer, has held the current license since 2013 with the current contract running through to 2026.

    Most notably Macron introduced the official Scottish Rugby Tartan to the 2015 Rugby World Cup shirt which proved to be a runaway success, so much so it was re-introduced for the 2019 Rugby World Cup shirt. Scotland will take their place at the Rugby World Cup in France 2023 in Pool B where they will face current holders South Africa and Ireland.

    This season's shirt commemorates the 150th anniversary of the first international rugby match, played when Scotland hosted England at Raeburn Place in 1871.

    The 2020/21 home shirt is predominantly navy, with a white collar and gold and white trim to the sleeves. The look is completed with white shorts and navy blue socks, both of which feature gold accents.

    It featured in the 2020 Autumn Nations Cup and 2021 Guinness Six Nations

        Initials - £3 - Up to 3 characters, usually printed underneath the brand logo or on the hem on shirts.  Printed above the brand logo on shorts or below on track pants.

        Names - £6 - Up to 12 characters, printed across the shoulders.

        Numbers - £6 - Up to 3 numbers, printed across the back.

        Name & Number - Up to 12 characters for the name and 3 for the number. Printed across the shoulders and back.
