With Dai Young back for a second spell in charge,Cardiff Rugby underwent a name change in the summer of 2021. Formerly known as the Cardiff Blues, the side now have an updated logo and are returning to the old traditional club colours of blue and back.
Cardiff will play in the 2021/22 United Rugby Championship, the rebranded Guinness Pro14, which includes four new teams for this season.
A total of sixteen sides will compete - four Irish provinces: Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster; two Italian sides: Benetton and Zebre; two from Scotland: Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors; four newcomers from South African: Bulls, Lions, Sharks and Stormers; and four Welsh teams: Cardiff, Dragons, Ospreys and Scarlets.
The league will contain four regional pools, with games played over 18 rounds. The top eight sides in the table will qualify for the quarter finals, followed by semi-finals and a grand final, with teams seeded 1 to 8 with home advantage for the lowest seeded side.
Over the course of the competition, teams will play six matches against their regional pool rivals home and away. The remaining twelve matches will be made up by an even number of home and away matches against sides from the other pools.
