Canterbury Stadium Pants - aka Canterburys

Most people in rugby just call them Canterburys. The full name is Canterbury stadium pants, and you'll also find them searched as tracksuit bottoms, joggers, trousers or track pants depending on where you're from. Whatever you call them, they're the same thing - and if you play or follow rugby at any level, you almost certainly know exactly what they look like.

      Why They've Lasted

Canterbury stadium pants have been around long enough to go in and out of fashion twice and still be the default choice for club players across the UK, Ireland and the southern hemisphere. Part of that is habit, but mostly it's because they're genuinely well built for what they're used for.
The construction is worth knowing about. Cotton lining from the waistband to the knee - soft, warm, comfortable against the skin. Polyester from the knee to the hem - tougher, doesn't snag on boot studs when you're pulling them on and off at the side of a pitch. Full-length zips up both sides to the hip, so they go on and off over boots without a fight. That detail alone has saved a lot of frustration on cold Tuesday evenings.
They work well as cold-weather training bottoms too. Wide enough to pull over shorts or a base layer, warm enough for standing on the touchline in December, durable enough to take a season of hard washing without falling apart.

Canterbury Cuffed vs Open Hem Stadium Pants

The open hem is the original style - wide leg, falls naturally, doesn't get in the way. There's a velcro tab at the hem so you can pull it in during warm-up when you don't want fabric near your studs. The cuffed version does the same job with an elasticated ankle that stays put without you having to think about it. Neither is better than the other - it comes down to personal preference.
Worth knowing: Canterbury stadium pants come in one leg length only. If you're on the taller or shorter end it's worth checking the measurements on the product page before ordering.

What Makes Canterbury Stadium Pants Different

The construction details are what separate them from a generic training bottom. A robust 100% polyester woven outer, cotton lining to the knee for comfort, polyester below for durability, hip zips for easy on and off over boots. They're built around the specific demands of rugby - pitch-side, changing room, team bus - rather than a generic gym or running pant. That specificity is why they've stuck around.

Canterbury Stadium Pants Colours - Black, Navy and More

Black and navy are the constants - always in the range, always in stock. The Uglies versions bring the colour, with bolder colourways and contrasting logos and lining that have made them as much a fashion item as a training bottom over the years. For the full Uglies colour range head to the dedicated Uglies page.

      Canterbury Tracksuit Bottoms for Men

Sizing runs XS to 4XL. Wide, relaxed fit - not tapered, not slim cut. If you're used to modern fitted training bottoms they'll feel more generous than you're expecting, which is part of the appeal, perfect for recovery days. Size as you normally would.

      Canterbury Tracksuit Bottoms for Women

Canterbury produce a women's specific cut rather than a scaled-down version of the men's. Same construction throughout - cotton lining, polyester hem, hip zips - in a fit made for female players. Runs womens 6 to 18. A staple of the women's game at club level across the UK and Ireland.

      Canterbury Tracksuit Bottoms for Kids

Junior sizes run from around age 4 to 16, sized by age rather than S/M/L. Same construction as the adult version, same colour range, so young players can match the rest of the squad.
