About the North Queensland Cowboys
The North Queensland Cowboys entered the NRL in 1995 as the competition's first team based outside of New South Wales or Queensland's south-east corner. Based in Townsville, they represent a vast region of north Queensland and have built one of the most loyal supporter bases in the competition despite their geographic isolation from the major cities.
The Cowboys won their only NRL premiership in 2015, beating the Brisbane Broncos in a grand final decided in golden point. Johnathan Thurston's field goal remains one of the most celebrated moments in rugby league history. The club also reached the grand final in 2005 and 2017.
