Mizuno is a Japanese company founded in Osaka in 1906 by Rihachi Mizuno. The global corporation burst onto the rugby scene in the 1990s with the sponsorship of the All Blacks footwear. The boot of the time was called the Timaru. It was available in a low-cut soft toe for backs and a high-cut hard toe for forwards. It was lauded for its levels of comfort and was even sported by the late great Jonah Lomu in the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

Today Mizuno rugby boots are far cry from these 1990s boots. Lending many technologies from Mizuno's successful range of football boots. The technologies in the boots are bang up to date but still offer excellent levels of comfort. Uppers consisting of PrimeSkin and Lightweight Synthetic Leather are the order of the day ensuring the boots are both lightweight and durable.

Outsoles consisting of 6 x 2 screw-in stud configurations offer maximum grip for the forwards. Whereas mix options consisting of moulded and screw in studs offer a stable platform for the backs. Fully moulded outsoles are also available, for when the ground is particularly hard. These types of outsoles often referred to as MD, or FG help to cushion the impact of hard ground and are an excellent option for pre-season training.

Mizuno has an excellent reputation for making boots that are particularly well made and durable. These boots will easily last through a rugby season if looked after. By which a quick scrub with water, allowed to dry naturally and then giving the leather a coating of beeswax is sufficient.
